Data Entry Home Business Start-up Guide Ever Created ..."

If you are looking for a data entry job, or want to be an employee, or desire some other temporary solution to earning an income with data entry, you'll find some great leads and outstanding advice in the Data Entry at Home section.

But, if you are open to a more long-term, flexible, and fulfilling way to make money at home, any of the following statements will ring true for you ...

You want to FIND OUT MORE about starting a home business doing data entry and other typing-related services ...

Don't let a home business intimidate you. If you sign up for an online data entry program (if you can even find a legitimate one), you are an independent contractor working for yourself.

If you are hired by a freelance agency, you are a freelancer - an independent contractor once again - a self-employed individual working from home.

If you find clerical data entry from home work through a temporary agency or for a particular short-term project ... it's just temporary and soon you find yourself back where you started at square 1. You are your own free agent.

Owning a home-based business simply means that you are self-employed. You can make your business as complicated or as simple as you like. You can make your home business as expensive - or as inexpensive - to operate as you like.

Don't be intimidated by a data entry home business ... get the facts first!

√ You are looking for a long-term solution to earning money at home ...

Depending upon your location, your skills, and the equipment and supplies you already own, you could be up and running within 7 days! This is not rocket science. If you've got the skills to be hired as an employee by one company - you've got the skills to be hired as an independent contractor by lots of different companies!

Having a job isn't necessarily any more secure these days than working for yourself. In fact, once you learn how to use your talents and skills for your own benefit, rather than someone else's, you may never work for someone else ever again!

You want to work around your family's schedule, set your own hours, raise your kids ...

Here's an excerpt from my January 2008 Keystrokes newsletter ...

Salary of a Stay at Home Mom

In 2006, Salary.com updated their valuation of a stay-at-home mom's job, if they were paid, and gave them a $2,650 annual raise! For the first time, they also established what a mom should earn who works full time outside the home.

They found the top ten best-matched job titles for moms to include housekeeper, day care center teacher, cook, computer operator, laundry machine operator, janitor, facilities manager, van driver, CEO and psychologist. We all know there are many more!

By estimating how many hours are worked in each role, Salary.com determined a stay-at-home mom would earn $134,121 per year if she was paid for her hard work. A working mom, in addition to her actual salary, would earn another $85,867 for the "mom" portion.

Our children are precious, the most important and valuable "job" there is, with so many rewards. But it's great to have a legitimate market value for the economic value moms contribute. If you want to customize your "Mom Paycheck" based on your location, the roles you play, and how much time you spend in those roles, follow this link and have some fun!

P.S. What about Dads? They certainly earn their "Dad Paycheck" too. Dads, follow this link!

I hear lots of heart-felt stories from the stay at home moms I mentor. Many have an almost overwhelming desire to be home with their children at least through their early years. Once the youngest child is of school age, or they can afford daycare, or some other criteria, the mom accepts her fate of having to return to the workforce as an employee, part time or full time.

Why? Because she pursued a temporary work at home solution or never found one at all. Or because she never believed in herself and her ability to run a home-based business. A simple, undemanding home business is your answer to long-term, fulfilling income that is almost entirely within your control.

I know that my 16 year old son needs me at home just as much NOW as he did when I started my home business when he was only two years old! Consider your goals for the future.

√ You believe that, as an entrepreneur, the sky is the limit as far as how you choose to make money and how much of it you make ... you just need some help getting started ...

YES! Data entry is perhaps the easiest, least expensive computer service you can offer from home.

YES! Data entry is in high-demand by businesses and business professionals around the globe.

YES! Lots and lots of people are making money from home. Of the 7 million self-employed persons in the United States in 2004, two-thirds of them had a home-based business and averaged 25 hours per week working at home. That's part time!

YES! If you can type with speed and accuracy and are dedicated to starting a part time (or full time) business from home with excellent instruction and support, you can become a home-based Data Entry Pro!

... Indeed, 1 in 4 of the over 4.5 million home-based entrepreneurs provided professional and business services ... such as data entry, word processing, and other administrative work ... according to the U.S. Census Bureau back in 2004.

Here Are Some Important Don'ts ... No Matter What Your Next Step Is

DON'T limit yourself to data entry!

Remember, the term "Data Entry" can be interchangeable with any kind of typing-related service such as transcription, word processing, billing, secretarial, virtual assistance, freelance writing, event and travel coordination and on and on.

DON'T pay for Online Data Entry Work!
Do you pay to complete a job application? Do you pay for a job interview? Do you pay customers to hire you? Do you pay your employer to be an employee? No way! You get paid!

To work at home, you will need to pay for education, equipment or supplies, and other resources ... similar to an employer paying for its employee's educational books and seminars, computer, office supplies, and the like. But ...

DON'T be taken advantage of!
Hundreds of people are searching for ways to work from home. Some are more desperate than others. If they NEED MONEY NOW, their sense of urgency often causes them to make irrational decisions, such as falling for a scam they normally wouldn't have.

If you've been searching the internet and scouring the newspapers for work at home opportunities, and running into dead ends ... or worse yet, being taken advantage of ... get real, honest, meaningful, life-changing answers right here!

Can you type with speed and accuracy?

Can you use the ten-key number pad efficiently?

Have you got some basic software skills like using word processing and spreadsheet programs? And basic computer skills like surfing the internet and managing emails?

Then You've Got All The Basic Skills Needed
To Start A Successful Data Entry Home Business.

My name is Michelle Johanson and my mission is to help you succeed working from home.

"Michelle, you obviously do care about your clients who purchase your product and you do back up your guarantees with honesty and great integrity.

I will not hesitate to spread the 'word' to others about your website ... Thank you again for going the extra mile with further information pertaining to my own personal goals."

Virginia
Plattsville, Ontario

Back in 1994, I worked a full time job as an Executive Administrative Assistant. That job was supposed to be a down-size from previous positions as a Credit Manager and Data Processing Supervisor ... however, the secretarial work turned out to be far more stressful and demanding than I ever expected!

Secretaries, virtual assistants, and other administrative or office support staff don't get nearly the appreciation or salary they deserve for their talent and skill. Get paid what you are worth and gain respect and praise in your own home business!

I became more and more distressed about leaving my toddler in daycare to go to work every day ... especially to a job that left me exhausted and underpaid. So, I spread the word and started doing word processing and data entry projects "on the side" through referrals from family and friends. This was the beginning of freedom for me and my family!

About a year later, in 1995, I said goodbye to my boss and hello to my newly launched home business, Projects Plus! Those early years were tough. Income was inconsistent, I learned by trial and error, and I worked long days and sometimes nights.

There was not a book written about starting, marketing, and growing a data entry home business. There were no college classes on the topic nor could I find any websites at that time with the help and support I needed. It took me years to perfect the techniques, the pricing formulas, and the marketing methods that made my home business wildly successful and profitable.

More than twelve years later, I am a well-known and respected businesswomen in my industry as the owner of Projects Plus LLC. In addition, I am a published author, a professional trainer, and a small business consultant. In the last few years, what started out as a hobby has become a profitable and deeply satisfying online adventure. Making money online through sources like affiliate marketing and eBay has been fun and enlightening ... and my mission is to share my knowledge and experience with you so you can tell your own work at home success story.

"Great work, Michelle! I appreciate your desire to meet Lorton Data's needs. Your attention to detail means a lot! Look forward to working with you even more next year!"
Pam, Lorton Data, 1996

> One of my first big customers was Lorton Data and they are still a great customer today!  I credit Pam for much of my expertise in the Data Processing industry. She became a teacher of sorts and a huge supporter of me and my business pursuits. Your customers can turn out to be your biggest cheerleaders and mentors!

"You get an A on this last project, Michelle! I don't give out A pluses! The project turned out to be much more complex than we anticipated. Good communication. Thanks for the outstanding work!"
Wendy, NBC Television Stations

> I thought "Wow" ... now I'm in the big time ... with NBC as one of my customers! I went on to acquire projects from companies like 3M, General Mills, and Gage Marketing ... to name a few!

"I found Michelle to be meticulous in the work she did. Just keeping track of all the material was a major effort. Quick to learn. She never had to be told twice how to do something. Able to produce an enormous amount of material quickly and at a very high level of quality. Personally pleasant and easy to work with. Additionally, she had an excellent sense of page layout which I find rare in people who are otherwise good at production. Plus, she was always straight with me about what she was able to do and what she was not able to do, another major virtue. I would assign another project to Michelle without hesitation."
Michele, The Rummler-Brache Group

> This was a complicated, tedious word processing assignment that took weeks to complete. But I learned so much from it, and after it was completed, I started charging more and taking on more difficult projects. It really built my confidence. You find out your strengths and weaknesses, where you should improve and what services or qualities you should promote more openly, by listening to your customers.

"Michelle, you are someone who takes time to understand our personal needs, not just plug us into what everyone else wants or needs. We appreciate your knowledge and willingness to listen, understand and learn. You always come through for us. You run a top-notch company, Michelle! Keep it up!"
Pam, Lorton Data, 1999

> Lorton Data, once again, not only became my favorite customer but also sent me lots of referrals!

"Projects Plus did a very good job on our list. They went above and beyond the call by looking up city names and zip codes. We really appreciated that."
Suzanne Noetzel

> At this point in my business, I had far more work than I could ever complete on my own. So, instead of turning customers and projects away, I hired independent contractors (stay at home moms) in my local area to perform data entry for me out of their homes. Projects Plus was no longer just me ... it was a skilled and talented TEAM. I was very particular about who I hired and held regular training seminars. I even published an IC newsletter to keep the people I hired up-to-date on the growth and direction of my company as well as providing insider tips to improve their typing speed, software knowledge, and other professional skills. This sparked my passion for helping others launch their own home businesses and paved the way for my small business consulting services.

"Michelle, I just want to say "THANK YOU" for the wonderful work you and your staff provided on my recent data entry project. I calculated the figures and concluded that you had a 99.6% accuracy rate on 9,074 records! I don't know that anyone could ask for much more?! Everyone did a fantastic job! Please be sure to let them know how much I appreciate that quality of work. Keep it up!
Pam, Lorton Data, 2002

> More Accolades for the fantastic work my "Stay at Home Mom Team" did!

These are just a few examples ... you can read more Projects Plus testimonials here.

The Beauty Of A Home Business Is That You Make It Uniquely YOU

If you want to keep it small, keep it part time ... you can. If you want to expand into other areas besides, or instead of, data entry ... you can. If you want to grow beyond yourself and hire others ... you can.

You'll know how to do all three of these things, and change them up as desired, with my detailed instruction.

Imagine a two-minute commute to work ... or however long it takes to walk from the pot of coffee brewing in the kitchen to your computer.

Imagine answering the phone and hearing, "Hi. This is Mike over at Advantage Mailing Services and I got your postcard in the mail about your data entry services."

You created a simple but effective, and very inexpensive, postcard mailing using my examples and suggestions, and you are getting results!

Your new prospective customer, Mike, continues, "I've got 10,000 records we need entered for one of our clients. Can I get a quote?"

YES! He sure can! You know exactly the right questions to ask to confidently bid his project because you are following my Price Guidelines Worksheet.

Imagine the next day, Mike calls back to ask if you can have the project done within three weeks and where he should ship it!

Let's see ... you figured you could type about 250 records per hour on Mike's job. So 10,000 records divided by 250 per hour is about 40 hours of work ... no problem getting it done in three weeks. You bid it at .14 cents per record ... that's about $1,400 for the data entry, divided by the 40 hours, so you'll average about $35 per hour! YES! YES! YES!

The project arrives, you set it up in your database software per my lessons, and begin inputting the data with integrity and consistency, just as I have trained you to do.

Less than three weeks later, because you know you should exceed your customers expectations in one way by beating their deadline, you complete and return Mike's project and send out an invoice for $1437.36. Ten days later, you get your check in the mail! Whoooooheeeeeee!

You can do a little dance in your pajamas and laugh and whoop for joy because you are in the comfort of your own home! And you just got paid  ... working for yourself!

After you've calmed down, you drive to the bank and make your deposit ... into a business checking account, separate from your personal account. You then record the deposit in your check register so you can keep accurate financial records. Remember, you will need to set aside some funds for self-employment tax and cover some business expenses out of that deposit.

You send Mike out a nice, hand-written "Thank you" note along with a survey of your services, just like I describe in detail.

Another envelope comes in the mail from Advantage Mailing Services a few days later. It's the completed survey from Mike, giving you high marks and a testimonial that says ... "Thanks for your superior service at a reasonable price. I won't hesitate to recommend you and hope to work with you again in the near future."

And it keeps getting better!  A week or so later, a gal named Jane calls from a company called Design Studio. She says that Mike from Advantage Mailing referred her and she needs a bid on her project! Fantastic!

Imagine that during all of this excitement, you are taking care of and playing with your kids; volunteering at school, church or for a cause close to your heart; getting the laundry and errands done during the day so that evenings are available for family activities, social events, or even data entry work!

*The above description is based on actual circumstances!

Imagine how fulfilling it will be ... to earn money at home ... using your talents and skills ...
around your personal schedule ... with no one looking over your shoulder ...
except very proud family and friends.

  • You can do it. It might seem like starting a home business is mysterious or daunting, costs a lot of money, is much too difficult, or too time-consuming when you've got kids to raise, a job, or other activities that are a priority in your life.

  • Do it at your own pace - in every way. From start up ... to how much time you want to spend working every month. Part time, full time, ten hours a month, 70 hours a week - the choice is yours. And you can vary it depending upon your schedule and your life circumstances.

  • Start-up costs are extremely low! Much of what you need, you probably already own. As your business grows, you can invest back into it to purchase wish list items, increase your marketing budget, or expand your services. Some of the profits from your business will pay for these things so you are not spending personal cash. And certainly not creating debt.

  • You'll find several pages devoted to effectively calculating your rates. Included are customized forms like a Project Description Worksheet to use when discussing a project with a customer in preparation for a quote. And the Rates Guideline you'll use to actually quote a project.

  • This book solves any marketing worries with sample advertising and sales text for use in letters, postcards, and flyers. Plus precise instruction for a direct mail campaign on a next-to-nothing budget; an announcement letter for friends, family, and business associates; plenty of other ideas and guidance on many other forms of marketing - plus, how to create and use an effective marketing database for your business.

  • Promoting a data entry home business does not have to be done with aggressive sales pitches and face-to-face meetings. Get the word out in a quiet sort of way, if you wish, with powerful, attention-grabbing mailings, email, and networking. This book tells you how.

Review the Table of Contents to see that every topic is covered from start-up to expanding into other areas. The actual Introduction is available too!
