Take the Offline Manual Typing Test For a more accurate score of your typing skill, always test for at least five minutes. I have created this customized typing test for use offline with Microsoft Word. You'll find out why in the "Testing Speed Scores" Tutorial. Print the special document I have prepared below and follow these steps: 1) Format your own document in Microsoft Word Open MS Word to a blank document. You will want to match your document to the prepared test document you will type from. To do this,
2) Print the prepared test document
It opens as a
PDF document
and is three pages long. If you do not have Adobe Reader to view and
print this document, download the free
Adobe Reader here. Notice the numbers in the right-hand
margin. These are your accumulating total characters, including
spaces, that you will use to calculate your score. If you are able
to type the entire three page document within five minutes with zero
errors (100% accuracy), you will score at a typing speed of 152 wpm! 3) Time your test
You will need to set a timer for five minutes. If you
don't have one available, use this free online
countdown alarm. Simply choose the alarm sound, set the
clock, and click "Start Countdown". Then you can switch back to your
Microsoft Word window to begin the test. The alarm will sound once
your set time has elapsed to let you know to stop typing. 4) Start typing Type exactly from the prepared test document. Correct errors as you go because they count against your score. Speed is meaningless without accuracy. When your five minutes is up, immediately stop typing. 5) Score your test Compare what you've typed to the prepared document. Count your errors. Note that only one error per word should be counted, but include errors in spacing, punctuation, capitalization, etc. Use the number provided (characters including spaces) at the end of the line on the prepared document that matches the last line you typed.
